 Jodhpur is the second largest city of Rajasthan and very famous tourist attraction of Rajasthan.it is called the blue city and the Sun city of India. wondering why? below are the top five reasons which will give you a detailed explanation as to why Jodhpur is called the blue city of India.




1. Sacred Colour : people of Jodhpur consider blue colour very scared because it is associated with lord Shiva. according to hindu mythology lord shiva had consumed the poison named 'halahala' to save the plannet during Samudra Manthan, which turned his neck blue. since then this colour is considered to be very sacred for people of jodhpur . people who are settled in Jodhpur have painted their house blue considering it to be very sacred colour.

2. Scorching heat: the blue colour reflects the sun rays keeping the house cool so people paint their houses in blue colour l because jodhpur is the hottest place and it is warm all the year. 

3. Easy availability of Copper Sulphate and Limestone : blue colour is produced by mixing copper sulphate and limestone which are easily available in the market. the mixture is used to paint the houses because it is very budget friendly and protects their house from any damage and insects.  thus Jodhpur is called the blue city of india.

Tradition and culture: people in Jodhpur have been painting their houses with blue colour from ancient times. it has become a tradition in jodhpur so now people paint their houses to maintain the tradition and glory of Jodhpur. the blue colour makes the city standout and generations have been following this tradition thus making it a blue city.

5. Blue colour differentiates: it is known that the blue colour is associated with the brahmins of Jodhpur and blue houses belong to them. differntiating them from the lower caste and indicating them as the priest of  hindu caste system.
