Kedarnath is is the most sacred temple, being one of the char Dhams for the Hindu follower. it is located in Uttarakhand, at 3553m above sea level. there are several ways to reach Kedarnath. the opening  of the temple is always announced on the day of Maha Shivratri. the yatra period is from may to october and the helicopter services start from may-june, september -october. they are closed during monsoons. here's a guide of ways to reach kedarnath and how you should plan your trip to Kedarnath.

 

BY AIR :


the Jolly grant Airport is the nearest airport to kedarnath as kedarnath does't have an airport of its own. the Dehradun airport is 250km far from Kedarnath but it is connected to most of the major cities of India such as Chennai, Kolkata and Delhi. after reaching Dehradun you can hire a bus or cab to reach kedarnath, there are helicopter services also available from Dehradun to kedarnath once a week, its a 45mins helicopter ride and you reach directly to the temple and also go back. 

BY TRAIN: Kedarnath is not directly connected by train as there is no railway station there, the last train station is in Rishikesh located around 220km from Gaurikund. you can hire a bus or a cab to kedarnath. rishikesh railway station is very well connected to all the cities and the trains are on a daily basis.

BY ROAD:


if you are planning to go by road , you can hire a bus or cab from Rishikesh, Delhi, Haridwar , dehradun and many more. you can also hire a private taxi.you will reach Gaurikund via cab, from there to reach the temple its a trek of 16 kilometers.

How to reach Kedarnath Temple?

BY HELICOPTER: Kedarnath has started helicopter services from Sersi, a amall village located on the way to sonprayag. the fare for two way ticket is around 4500 that is sersi to temple and then back to Sersi.the temple is 15-20 mins walk from the helipad though the one way ticket fair is around 2500.the helicopter services have to booked in advance and also they get delayed or cancelled due to bad weather. for advance booking please visit: https://heliservices.uk.gov.in/  . you can also fly from dehradun its a 45min beautiful journey.

BY WALKING:


the trek starts from Gaurikund, the distance is of 16 kilometer. it was 14 before but the distance has increased after the floods in 2013. the timings of trek are 4am to 1:30pm, the timings are fixed and after this it is strictly prohibited to walk due to safety reasons of the travelers. there are various small tea stalls, drnking water and restaurants for the pilgrims. but it is not safe to trek in monsoonsdue to heavy rains. the trek is very steep so the all the pilgrims should be physically very fit and people with heart problems should get themselves checked by the doctor before travelling to high altitude.
